Kit for determination of hepatitis C genotypes has been registered

TestGene has registered the test system for detection of hepatitis C virus genotypes (1a, 1b, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6). The kit makes it possible to identify the most common virus subtypes in Russia as well. This is especially important for choosing the optimal treatment regimen and prognosing the course and possible complications of the disease.

The "HEPA-C-GENE-TEST" test system is one of the five in the TestGene’s range of products for PCR diagnostics of hepatitis. Previously the kits for qualitative detection of hepatitis B, C, D and quantitative detection of hepatitis B and C were registered.

For ease of use, the possibility of joint testing by all the kits for diagnostics of hepatitis, as well as kits for detection of HIV – HIV-1-test-Q and HIV-test2 – has been implemented.

According to clinical guidelines, hepatitis C genotyping is to be performed in all patients with planned antiviral therapy. Treatment prescribed without preliminary determination of the hepatitis C genotype may be ineffective.

Hepatitis C is a viral liver disease that becomes chronic in 55-85% of cases. There are 8 main genotypes of the hepatitis C virus and about 500 subtypes. In Russia, genotypes 1b, 3, 1a, 2 predominate. The treatment regimen may differ depending on the genotype. Genotypes 2 and 3 are amenable to therapy in about 80% of cases. Patients with hepatitis C genotypes 1 and 4 are prescribed higher doses of interferon preparations.

Determination of hepatitis C genotypes in the "HEPA-C-GENE-TEST" kit is carried out by reverse transcription combined with PCR in one microtube, which reduces the number of manipulations with the reaction mixture and thereby minimizes the number of errors and the possibility of contamination. One tube per patient is used to detect genotypes 1a, 1b, 2 and 3.
