Kit for determination of the resistance of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis to aminoglycosides and fluoroquinolones has been registered
The TestGene company has registered the test system for determination of the drug resistance of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex to aminoglycosides and fluoroquinolones by real-time PCR with analysis of melting curves in a DNA sample.
The kit "MTB-RESIST-II-test" is designed for qualitative detection of genetic polymorphisms of the rrs, eis, gyrA and gyrB genes associated with the drug resistance of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex to aminoglycosides and fluoroquinolones (second-line drugs for treatment of tuberculosis).
Tuberculosis remains one of the most common causes of death in the world. One of the problems of treatment of tuberculosis is the spread of an extensively drug-resistant form of the disease (XDR-TB). This disease involves resistance to at least four major anti-tuberculosis drugs: isoniazid and rifampicin, in combination with resistance to any of the fluoroquinolones and at least one of the three second-line injectable medications (amikacin, capreomycin, or kanamycin).
XDR-TB can develop in patients with active tuberculosis due to improper use or prescription of anti-tuberculosis drugs, as well as infection from a patient already suffering from this disease.
"This form of tuberculosis requires long-term treatment, especially if diagnosed late. That is why it is so important to obtain the result of the analysis of antibiotic resistance quickly. The kit "MTB-RESIST-II-test" developed by us is recommended for use when examining patients with confirmed pulmonary or extrapulmonary tuberculosis to determine the resistance of mycobacteria to aminoglycosides and fluoroquinolones and to choose the appropriate therapy. Use of the kit makes it possible to reduce the time to obtain the result up to 125-165 minutes, while the diagnostics of MBT drug resistance by traditional microbiological methods takes a long time (8-12 weeks on average)," says Alexey Solovyov, Head of the PCR development department of the TestGene company, Candidate of Biological Sciences.
Important advantages of the kit "MTB-RESIST-II-test" are 100% sensitivity and specificity, compatibility with all open-type cyclers with five detection channels, as well as a wide range of materials for the analysis, including blood, urine, sputum and microbial cultures.
